Will 2015 be the year of serious Climate Action? We better hope it is. 2014 was the hottest year in recorded history, even despite small pockets of below-average temperatures in parts of U.S. It’s good to remember that the rising temps are global because some Americans can overlook the fact that our continent’s landmass does not dominate the planet and is only a small percentage of the world’s area. PBS talked with scientist Gavin Schmidt of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies about the indisputable human impact on global warming.
In the latest State of the Union, President Obama talked about his environmental record. Half of the United States Senate has refused to formally acknowledge the existence of man-made climate change. Forty-nine Republicans voted against a measure noting “human activity significantly contributes to climate change.” . . . In North Dakota, nearly three million gallons of saltwater created as a byproduct of oil drilling have leaked from a pipeline.(Democracy Now)
Alexis Bonogofsky, an environmental activist and farmer, said she has learned not to believe safety claims about pipelines. She was hospitalized for hydrocarbon exposure after the 2011 rupture of ExxonMobil’s Silvertip pipeline, and she then watched her land along the Yellowstone River south of Billings lose hay, fill with weeds and feed fewer goats.
