No, greed is not good.
Climate change denial is fueled primarily by greed. The Greed possessed by politicians and business owners and fossil fuel companies, most of them of the Republican/right-wing philosophy, but also some of the centrist/Democratic persuasion.
Greed is not just “the root of all “evil in the world, but also climate chaos and disruption, poverty, pollution, and lots of other heartache on the planet. It’s the cause of extinction and endangered animals and habitat loss. Human beings can exist in the world without money and did for all but a small blip of our human history, but nowadays, the purpose of the lives of many human beings is the accumulation of money. This meaningless occupation, the accumulation of wealth, is literally killing the planet. Look at what Monsanto, for example, and other GMO companies are doing to the world: poisoning our food with glyphosates (a carcinogen) and destroying the land with heavy douses of their chemical poisons, and destroying seeds and historic farming practices with their rules and regulations about their frankenseeds.
Greed is killing wild animals on earth at an alarming rate.
Greed and wealth accumulation is the basis for climate change. We could switch next week to sustainable fuels if we wanted to, but there is too much money in fossil fuels to give up drilling. We no longer need oil and coal and other fossil fuels but people want to keep sucking them out of the earth because there’s money in it. Lots and lots of money. We could switch next week to stop loggin and cutting down the Amazon rain forest, and other forests, but we don’t stop destroying the “lungs of the planet” because of greed. There is a lot of profit in cutting down tons of trees.
So, since most of these greedy bastards killing our planet claim to be Christians, here are some Bible verses which seem to predict the mess their money would get us into some day:
1 Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Well, that’s pretty clear. But I guess most Christian coal mine owners/oil drillers don’t really care.
The greedy bring ruin to their households, but the one who hates bribes will live.
Well, everyone in Congress is involved in bribes (lobbying, PACs, etc.).
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: . . . . . evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
The fact is, money and greed are what drive climate change denial.
The largest, most-consistent money fueling the climate denial movement are a number of well-funded conservative foundations built with so-called “dark money,” or concealed donations, according to an analysis released Friday afternoon.
The study, by Drexel University environmental sociologist Robert Brulle, is the first academic effort to probe the organizational underpinnings and funding behind the climate denial movement.
It found that the amount of money flowing through third-party, pass-through foundations like DonorsTrust and Donors Capital, whose funding cannot be traced, has risen dramatically over the past five years.
In all, 140 foundations funneled $558 million to almost 100 climate denial organizations from 2003 to 2010.
Meanwhile the traceable cash flow from more traditional sources, such as Koch Industries and ExxonMobil, has disappeared.
The study was published Friday in the journal Climatic Change.
“The climate change countermovement has had a real political and ecological impact on the failure of the world to act on global warming,” Brulle said in a statement. “Like a play on Broadway, the countermovement has stars in the spotlight – often prominent contrarian scientists or conservative politicians – but behind the stars is an organizational structure of directors, script writers and producers.”
“If you want to understand what’s driving this movement, you have to look at what’s going on behind the scenes.”
What is going on behind the scenes is climate denial based on the greedy rich, the Koch Brothers and others like them, the Republican party, the Tea Party, and others on the right who care about nothing but money. Stop the money corruption of our political system, stop the profit in fossil fuels, and you will stop climate change denial.
If you want to argue with an ideological climate denier, (the partisan kind, not rich, who embrace their ignorance because they want to emulate and be like their ignorant and greedy political icons) this article might help.
7 Ways To Shut Down A Climate Change Denier
It’s not the sun, stupid.
“According to the National Climate Data Center, the amount of solar energy at the top of our atmosphere has followed its natural 11-year cycle of small ups and downs, with no net increase. Over that same period, global temperatures have risen significantly, meaning that it’s “extremely unlikely” that solar influence has been a major driver of global temperature change.” — a small excerpt
